Siskin on target for National Stakes test
Siskin has been Awarded the green light week to Participate in a mouthwatering renewal of Their Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday by ger Lyons.
Unbeaten in a Group One winner and four starts Siskin is set to match Charlie Appleby Goodwood scorer Pinatubo and Aidan O’Brien’s Armory.
“He is in fantastic shape and he is being driven by his trainer using the National Stakes on Sunday week in head, even if I would be quite nervous carrying on Pinatubo!” Lyons told www.irishchampionsweekend.ie.
“He was incredibly striking at Goodwood, but Siskin includes a Group One win under his belt, so even though he is a great bit below three of these on evaluations and evaluations don’t lie.
“That said, he did what he was asked to perform, and I’ve been quite happy with him. I’d have no difficulty on nice ground taking on anybody on seven furlongs and anything beats Pinatubo will likely be champion two-year-old.”
Siskin dealt with earth for the first time out and Lyons admitted to being surprised.
“He’s impressed me. The Phoenix was a case of no horse really liking the ground, but everybody was telling me he would fight it due to his pedigree and in the vehicle park ahead I was becoming worried,” said Lyons.
“I had never really thought about it much ahead to be honest, but a lot of folks were speaking about the floor. He showed a great attitude as well as all going well, he is being trained as a Guineas horse next year.”
As for his other big hope over the weekend, Who is Steph at the Moyglare”Jewels” Blandford Stakes, Lyons would have to see lots of rain to let her take her chance.
“She is possibly my favorite horse at the lawn, but it’s rare enough she’s her ground. She isn’t a Group One filly and, in that league, everything needs to be in her favor,” he explained.
“She’d actually need it soft to thick or heavy,”
