We picked a nice win every night, to run our record to 5-2 on the week when we backed the St. Louis Cardinals at home against the Milwaukee Brewers. This seemed like a game that was rather evenly matched, however I liked backing the Cards in the home as they had the fourth-best home winning percentage in the majors heading into last night’ game. The Brewers had fought on the road all year and had lost five out of the last seven games. Once the Cardinals moved from home favorites, to money, it generated more value, and all over the Cardinals jumped.
The game was a great deal closer than you might be shown by the score since the score was 1-0 through five innings. St. Louis created a somewhat contentious decision to pull starting pitcher Michael Wacha, who had been absolutely cruising, after just four innings of work since they ended pinch-hitting to get Wacha with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth.
They couldn’t capitalize on the scoring chance, and with Wacha out of this game, the bullpen gave up their lead, allowing two runs in the inning. Inside my selection yesterday I mentioned that I was looking to evaporate the bullpen, who abused the last several games and have been used. And after Milwaukee turned matters over to the pencil, the wheels fell off for the Brewers.
St. Louis wound up scoring eight runs on five distinct Milwaukee relievers in only four innings. The big hit was a dual by Dexter Fowler that gave the Cards the lead for good and broke up a 2-2 tie. With the win, the Cardinals put the Brewers at the Central Division race and more distance between themselves.
Milwaukee is four matches and fast. The Chicago Cubs stay just a half of a match of the Cardinals and discovered a win against the San Francisco Giants. It appears like it is going to be a finish for the ages this season in the NL Central Division. In which the Pirates host the Nationals for the selection, we’ll head to Pittsburgh.
The Washington Nationals are at Pittsburgh Wednesday for game three of a four-game series from the Pirates. The series is tied up in once game going tonight. The Nats have gone from playoff right currently, and haul to wild card favorites in just two or three week’s time hold a one-game lead over the Cubs for the very first card slot in the NL. The Nationals have won ten from their last fourteen games.
For the Pirates, they’d done a decent job of staying competitive a lot of the season, but they opened by losing eight straight games to drop out of their playoff dialog. The Pirates have lost four out of the last six games, and are at the middle, a whopping fifteen and a half games back of the Cardinals.
Starting tonight to get the Nationals is Patrick Corbin (9-5 3.34 ERA), and for the Pirates it is Joe Musgrove (8-11 4.59 ERA). The game total over-under is place at nine runs. The Nationals have been -145 road favorites. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 PM PST in PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Patrick Corbin has been brought in Stephen Strasburg and to be a number three at the Washington rotation behind Max Scherzer. And for the most part, he’s lived up to this hype. Corbin is top five in the NL in strikeouts with 180. Two of the men ahead of him? Scherzer and Strasburg. And also that his ERA is a really respectable 3.34.
In July, he had been almost unhittable as he’d a 1.94 ERA in six starts, and the Nationals won five out of those sox games. As he got roughed up by the Arizona Diamondbacks, in August he started a bit slow, but in his past 2 starts, he’s thrown a joint twelve innings and has allowed only three earned runs. As he pitched seven innings, allowing only one run while striking a season-high twenty five, against the Pirates this season, Corbin tossed a stone.
Joe Musgrove has a big job at hand tonight. This Nationals group has decided to begin swinging the bats here in August. Washington had played runs in four of their past five games and is currently leading the National League in runs. We saw in which they scored thirteen conducts, how powerful this Washington crime is in game one of the series.
Musgrove was strong in his last start against the Chicago Cubs, but for the month of August, he has a 0-2 record with a 7.31 ERA in 3 starts. This man had an ERA of two runs but he has struggled since then. He has permitted five runs or more. Ouch.
This is a mismatch. We see a great deal of these late in the summer where one team is pushing for the playoffs, and assess talent and the team is just hoping to perform the rest of the season. Winning isn’t a priority at this time to the Pirates, and it shows. So, clearly, the negative is Washington. Along with the price isn’t all that unattractive.
But when I take a look at the run line, I find I can get the Nats. That sounds! Corbin is likely to fully shut this team down tonight. Remember when I mentioned the Nats lead the NL in scoring here in August? Since they are fourteenth scored, The Pirates are on the end of that spectrum. With just the Miami Marlins one operate .
I see Corbin getting us seven or six strong innings with a great deal of strikeouts, and Joe Musgrove being hammered by the Nationals. I really don’t know if it is going to get out of hand because it did in game but if the Nationals punished the Pirates to the tune of thirteen runs fifteen strikes, but it just might. Either way I visit that the Nationals cruising to the victory by runs, therefore I will take advantage of the run line and go for the payout. Give me the Washington Nationals laying a jog and a half in game three from Pittsburgh!
